Ramadan 1436 : The tragi-comic tale of Rebecca Arthur and Simo El Adala

As you noticed, this post is in English. It's essentially destinated to Americans as their media are coverning the story I'll talk about at the speed of the snail. Sorry.

The mother of all the funk began early this morning. While checking a well known local pure player, I fell on this story: A teenage girl, Rebecca Arthur, left Connecticut by plane to Morocco while she pretended to her parents that she'll go to California. When her mother failed to get a call from her, parents called police to seek for her. My first reflex was to make a check in US media. It was confirmed. I was asking myself whether American lambdas would think of the worst especially when you think of films and series episodes showing Americans going abroad as tourists as being under treath (The Simpsons' episode "The Crepes of Wrath" and the movie "Taken" are just examples that came in my mind). Some media, without any exageration, were in alert mode (Fox News style if I dare)

Later during the day, a Moroccan pure player in English talked with a jounalist in a local radio who confirmed that Rebecca was safe in Morocco and was with her FB boyfriend and his family spending their time in Essaouira. It showed also a document depicted as an authorisation from her mother to go abroad (Some claim that it was actually forged). Another Moroccan media talked to the boyfriend Mohamed El Adala AKA Simo El Adala with Rebecca Arthur next to him. He said that her parents were informed of her destination and that a friend of her was behind telling to Rebecca's mother that she could be abducted. The reason, as claimed by the boy, is that she was refused by Rebecca to follow her to Morocco. Strangely, this version wasn't told in US media. While spending their time in Essaouira, they heard of the news and there was such a panic that they came back to Casablanca.

The story could stop here as Rebecca wanted to stay in Morocco for 2 weeks with her boyfriend and his family. Tonight, the same pure player wrote that American consulate would repatriate Rebecca to her country due to leaving the country without authorisation as she was still minor for some months (She is 17 years old). Basing on the article, she could come back to Morocco once she'll be 18 and the boyfriend could even get some simplifications to go to USA to meet her girlfriend.

No idea about what will happen after that. All I wish is that they won't suffer from this adventure and that Americans would be more curious to know about a country called Morocco that maybe have never of before or have simplistic if not erroneous image. My advice: Travel more and watch less.

Hier et ce soir, des sit-in ont été organisés à Inezgane, Agadir, Casablanca et Rabat en solidarité avec les 2 filles qui ont été harcelées au marché d'Inezgane et arrêtées pour soit disant atteinte à la pudeur pour port de jupes. Rien que ça. Espérons que les augustes harceleurs auront assez de chutzpah pour faire face à un écossais intransigeant en ce qui concerne le port du kilt.

Ramadan 1436 : Doc du soir "DNA Dreams"

J'ai vu le documentaire "DNA Dreams" il y a quelques années. Il est intéressant que les recherches en génétique est bien développé en Chine au point de se soucier moins des aspects éthiques qu'en Europe. J'ai retrouvé en version anglaise faute de disponibilité en français. En bref, un documentaire glaçant. Bon spectacle.

Ramadan 1436 : In/Out (Entrée et sortie des fidèles)

Une des caractéristiques du mois de Ramadan est l'affluence exceptionnelle des fidèles aux mosquées, notamment entre la prière du coucher et celles de l'aube. Cette tentative de time-lapse que j'ai réalisé hier peut tout résumer.

Hidden & other works of Hanna Heilborn & David Aronowitsch

During short film workshop I attended in Cairo in 2007, there were many projections of short documentaries. Among them, Hidden/Gömd. This one directed by Swedish Hanna Heilborn and David Aronowitsch. It's the story of a Peruvian boy who was obliged to live hidden in Sweden after joining his family and the consequences on his daily life. What is peculiar in this short is the mix of audio interview and animation.

This film is a part of a trilogy by the same duo: "Sharaf", the story of a Moroccan teenager who crossed to Canarias and "Slavar/Slaves" which is the tail of a young Sud Sudanese boy abducted to the north where he was exploited.

Madagascar : A journey diary

One of the best short animation I've ever saw. It's under the shape of a diary of Bastien Dubois, a young Frenchman who was visiting Madagascar. Its invitation to see the strange burial ceremoniy in countryside is a pretext to discover the nature, fauna and people of this unique island.

A must watch!

Pour qui je vais voter ? Dilemme !

Bon, les élections parlementaires du 25 novembre s'approche tambours battant et tout le monde fait du réchauffement et de la cuisine électorale pour cette date fatidique, la première après le vote de la nouvelle constitution. Maintenant, certains se demandent sur le choix du parti qu'ils voteront ou plutôt du candidat.

Personnellement, ma seule expérience électorale était celle du référendum qui m'a appris des leçons dont je parlerai un jour. Pour qui je vais voter ? Sérieusement, je ne sais plus. Un USFP moribond que je ne le reconnais plus, un Istiqlol Istiqlal face Fassi-face Chabbat, un PJD relativement crédible mais parfois bi-faces (Côté gentil et côté compulsif), sans parler de l'alliance contre-nature et bizarre du G8.

Sérieusement, je me demande sur les critères que font les électeurs pour choisir leurs représentants au parlement. On vote car "C'est un type de notre quartier/clan/ville/etc.", "Il nous a promis telle ou telle"...ou bien pour le programme du parti ? Inutile de parler des parlementaires qui changent de partis comme ils changent de chemises. Bref, pour moi pas assez interessé mais je vais prendre mon temps.

2 points avant de terminer le post :

• Enfin, nos politiciens s'intéressent aux réseaux sociaux, surtout Twitter. On a vu PSU, Moncef Belkhayat et maintenant on voit de nouveaux venus comme Nabil Benabdellah et le RNI. Tout ce que j'espère est qu'après les élections leurs comptes seront toujours en activité. Ils auraient dû le faire avant.
• Pour les prochaines pubs des partis lors de leurs campagnes électorales, délaissez les sythétiseurs et les messieurs qui chantent styles années 70 et 80 ou bien comme des enfants chantant des comptines. En voici un exemple venu de la Pologne que j'ai vu il y a quelques semaines dans "L'Effet Papillon". Don Bigg, H-Kayne et Fnaïr se sont embourgoisis avec leurs récents raps patriotiques, on donne la chance à nos métaleux. Je me suis rappelé de la belle candidate du PAM en débardeur sur le tracteur pour montrer un cas polonais similaire au premier où la candidate s'effeuille. Bon, je préfère vous laisser trouver par vous même.
